AS others have pointed out they didn't make the Savage back in 82. My guess is that it is a Suzuki Tempter 650 (a twin cylinder).
After sitting for two years, who knows? You say you are comfortable with working on cars, so maybe it's not such a bad deal.
Personally I'd be very reluctant to pay much money for it. If it looks like it's in good shape and just needs a little TLC, maybe $300?
You can count on buying new oil, plugs, battery, filters, etc.
